Yes, it's been out for a while now -- and 2X+ perf with 3 rackmount height. Same formula, only more of it. I do like how you get a lot more but the price is hovering around $2.2K USD.

It is curious however what you get for such a jump in power. Do the new algorithms need the power, and what was bad about the old algos? If you want more accuracy, that does not always directly translate into a better sound. Having a better simulation of an amp schematic shouldn't always make it sound better -- it could sound worse!

I think the extra power does allow you to add more effects in series/parallel and make things flow more easily without bottlenecks. Or give you flexibility in creating more complicated effects algorithms. But ultimately, not sure if the tone is 2X better. Still, the price is the same as the old models, so that is a plus.

So many great software modelers out there now. In no particular order:

Native Instruments Guitar Rig

IK Multimedia Amplitube

Scuffham S-Gear

Positive Grid Bias FX

Mercuriall

Waves PRS Supermodels

And these VSTs not only have guitar amp modeling, but usually full guitar effects like overdrive/distortion, compression, delay, modulation, etc.

Laptop hardware is reasonably stable and with great, inexpensive digital audio interfaces, I can see these being used live. Many guitarists have refused to do this, but I think it's because of their inexperience with laptops and knowing how to optimize it for music audio. Synth/EM bands have been using laptops and SW for years with no issues. You do have to get a good interface so you get low latencies for playing live. I have heard of people saying they cannot live with latencies of a 10 milliseconds, but this is ridiculous as this is equivalent of being 10ft from their speaker cab. You can definitely play live with a few milliseconds delay!

Here's a good article:

https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques/...nterface#7

Guitars: Electric guitarists generally play a few feet from their stacks, and since the speed of sound in air is roughly a thousand feet per second, each millisecond of delay is equivalent to listening to the sound from a point one foot further away. So if you can play an electric guitar 12 feet from your amp, you can easily cope with a 12ms latency.

Some people say it's like a baby Line6 Helix. Has a similar look, stripped down. I guess it's that large color screen that does it. If the amps are decent (from the Mooer preamp pedal line) and can load 3rd party IRs -- this thing looks to be a good backup unit for cheap. Will debut in October 2017, but no sign on when they will ship and for how much.
