Marek Dabek of Stradi Instruments makes some incredible basses. This one shown here at the Local Woods Challenge is the Symphony Model:

  • Neck: Oak / Ammonia smoked oak / Hornbeam, Poland
  • Fingerboard: Flamed Maple, Poland
  • Headstock Overlay: Poplar Burl, Poland
  • Body: Alder Spalted, Ammonia smoked oak, Ash, Poland
  • Top: Poplar Burl, Poland
  • Bridge: Bog Oak, Poland

I met Marek at the Holy Grail Guitar Show in Berlin, October 2016 and he is a gracious, humble artist who makes some of the most amazing basses in the world. I love his Stradi body design. The Strad shape is undeniable, and works really well with his bass designs.   I also was able to play his Symphony bass with very old bog wood (see below).  I love the red strings, the dot inlay design, and the amazing curve on the back. And — it’s fretless! Really stunning instrument from a world-class luthier.
