Maxwell Infinitum – Grace

In Guitars, Image by jtkung

The Grace is an evolution of the Infinitum model. This New Zealand luthier is making some incredible guitar designs.  The woods are mostly local, and the emphasis is on design — not a lot of fancy inlays, bindings, or bling of any kind. The Infinitum feature which is very unique is the carved top that has slots in it for the sound holes. The slots as sound holes are not visible because they face perpendicular to the sound top. Very unique and 3-dimensional. Another unique feature is the internal carbon fibre/epoxy element between the neck and tail blocks, that also contacts the soundboard top where the strings connect. This takes the tension load off the top, allowing less bracing on the top and more vibration. Other makers such as Michael Sankey have also done this using carved wood elements, but few do this with a carbon fibre/epoxy element.  Modern design, construction and materials!
